Business Card for: F5 Photography

I designed this card for my wedding and portrait photography business, F5 Photography, of which I am the owner and sole photographer. I letterpressed it myself with 1 color PMS 877 metallic for the F5 Photography and a blind deboss hit on the starburst pattern. It is cut to 2×2 inches, and double laminated for thickness and to allow for deep impressions.

When developing the logo, the word F5 is actually derived from the f/stop increment for f/5.6, which measures the opening of the aperture. The starburst pattern is an interpretation of the aperture. Since the logo was square in nature, I chose to cut the cards square. And because of it’s beauty and popularity, especially in the wedding industry, letterpress was the natural choice for the printing method.

I printed myself via Device Printshop. Device is actually a joint venture between myself and a buddy I work with as a full time designer. It is a public access, community based, letterpress and screen print studio in downtown Winston-Salem, NC, offering workshops, training, and equipment & space rental. You can find out more at

With plates, ink, and paper, I spent about $140. The rest was just labor which I did myself. I was able to print about 100 cards 2-up on an 8.5×11 sheet.
